"Ojciec cudzych dzieci..." : wspomnienie o "starym doktorze" Januszu Korczaku

Collection Korczak Digital Repository
Description This publication is a memoir written by Jan Piotrowski, a pre-war journalist who in the second half of the 1930s was the editor of a radio-themed publication titled Antena – relating to Janusz Korczak. The book includes hagiographic elements, quotes from Korczak's writings, a transcript of his radio broadcast titled Loneliness of Old Age. A substantial part of this publication covers Korczak's work for radio, including the responses to Korczak's broadcasts by nationalistic and Catholic listener groups. Korczak worked with Polish Radio between 1934-1936 using the pseudonym Stary Doktór / The Old Doc. He produced broadcasts for children, later called “gadaninki / chit-chats”. These were cancelled on 9th of March 1936 – the reasons were never revealed to Korczak, but he was clearly hurt by this. He returned to radio in 1938 and made further broadcasts during the siege of Warsaw in 1939.
