| Description | This volume contains an article written by Janusz Korczak and Ada Poznańska, a psychologist who would come to move to Israel as Ada Poznańska-Hagari. She was na intern at the Orphanage in the 1930s. She would later recall that Korczak asked her to work on the results of a survey hosted by him for pre-school age children in Różyczka (a branch of the Orphanage for Jewish children) and in Our Home (for Polish children). At the time of writing, the survey had become a tradition of some years's standing in the Orphanage and Our Home. It allowed the children residing there to learn how they are perceived by other residents of the institute. Children gave each other marks by voting using cards marked with either a “+” (like), “-” (dislike) or “0” (indifferent). The materials used in this article were gathered by Korczak by talking to his pupils about how they felt about the other children. The article included the results of the survey and some discussion on their topic, keeping in mind the way in which children formulated their statements, what motivated the way they assigned their marks to other children and the reciprocity of the mentees' opinions. It also includes a succinct description of the children who were more or less well liked. Poznańska-Hagari wrote about Korczak in Hebrew, publishing among others "האיש העקשן : יאנוש קורצ׳אק מקרוב" [A Stubborn Man: Janusz Korczak close up, 1989]. |
