Collection Biblioteka Narodowa
Description Publication containing a text originally published in "Opieka nad Dzieckiem" in March of 1930. The main thesis presented in this article is Korczak's vision for the way Children's Day should be celebrated, and his proposal that this should be an opportunity to have an honest conversation between children and adults, leading to an eventual conciliation between the two groups. In this way, Children's Day would offer the opportunity to usher in new forms of relations between the young and the old. The text weaves together observations of how children relate to adults, something found in earlier texts published by Korczak. In this, Korczak perceives the lack of understanding between children and adults, and the way in which both sides are resistant to acknowledging each other's needs. And yet, Korczak hopes that this can change. From 1929, Children's Day was celebrated in May (previously celebrated in September). Towards the end of the 1920s, Korczak was involved in organising Children's Week celebrations in Warsaw, celebrated alongside Mother's Day events. In 1930, Children's Week was celebrated between 26-31 of May. The 29th of May 1930 saw the grand opening of Our Home in the Warsaw district of Bielany, established to offer shelter to Polish children. This institution was ran by Maria Falska, Korczak helping run Our Home from 1919, when it was still based outside the capital in the town of Pruszków.
