Ludzie są dobrzy
Collection | Biblioteka Narodowa |
Description | This novel features a young girl as its central protagonist, as she emigrates with her mother. Following the death of her father, she moves to Palestine where she tries to discover and understand the reality she finds herself in, and which is different to the Poland she already knows. Much of the novel is given over to the relationship between the mother and her daughter, and it should be stressed that the choice of female protagonist is unique in terms of Korczak's writing, as he tended to choose male protagonists in most of his works. This novel is unique in being one the books he wrote specially aimed at Jewish readers. They were written in Polish, because Korczak did not know Hebrew nor Yiddish. And yet the books were translated into those languages - "Ludzie są dobrzy" is a testament of Korczak's fascination with Palestine which he visited twice – in 1934 and 1936. This book was published in 1938 by the Palestinian Library for Children. It was a sort of gift for the readers of the magazine „Mały Przegląd”. |
