| Description | "Refleksje" are treated separately from other works by Janusz Korczak for a range of reasons. Issued in 1938, as a temporary publication by the Association for Aiding Orphans (Towarzystwo "Pomoc dla Sierot"), an organisation Korczak's Orphanage was associated with. In 1939, they were published as an article in the Polish language Jewish newspaper "Nasz Przegląd". Korczak frequently wrote introductions to the annual reports published by the Association for Aiding Orphans. Starting in 1929, considering the Association's worsening financial situation, he appealed in his texts for donation to help the work of this organisation. These appeals were supported by various arguments, including statistical data relating to how many young people the Orphanage helped, and also quotes from letters written by children cared for by the Orphanage. Korczak's Reflections are lighthearted in tone, containing elements of Jewish humour called “szymonces”. The text itself hints at having been distributed at events organised to support philanthropic projects. |
