| Description | A handwritten copy of Henryk Goldszmit's medical diploma from the original kept in the archives, made in 1932 because the doctor lost his own copy of this important document. The dates in the document were given according to the Julian calendar used in tsarist Russia, but according to the current calendar, Henryk Goldszmit (Janusz Korczak) became a doctor on April 5, 1905. A copy of the diploma was attached to the German "Questionnaire for the first registration of a medical profession", which is mandatory for all physicians in the General Government. The purpose of the registry was to the separation of Jewish doctors under the restrictions imposed on them by the occupant, hence the certificate of October 2, 1940, visible at the bottom of the page. Below is the content of the diploma translated into English. "The Council of the Imperial University of Warsaw hereby certifies that Henryk Goldszmit, son of Józef, entered in the register of students of the Imperial University of Warsaw at the beginning of the academic year 1898/9, during the academic years 1898/9, 1899/900, 1900/1901, 1901/2, 1902/3, 1903/4 he completed a full course of lectures, provided for during five courses at the Faculty of Medicine of the above-mentioned University. On the basis of the final examination in compulsory subjects at the Faculty of Medicine, he passed, by the decision of the University Council of March 17, 1905, he, Goldszmit, was awarded, ° degree of doctor. As proof of this, he, Mr. Goldszmit, was issued this diploma with appropriate signatures and the official seal. M [iasto] Warsaw, March 23, 1905.
