Collection | Muzeum Warszawy |
Description | The photo shows Janusz Korczak (Henryk Goldszmit) surrounded by the camp guard and the staff of the 'Różyczka', branch of the Dom Sierot (Orphans' Home) in Wawer. In the photo, next to Korczak, there are: Szymon Korentajer (1906/7 - 1929) on his left, Lejb (Arie) Buchner (1905–1976) on the right. Both were residents of the Dormitory operating at the facility, which prepared young people for the profession of educator through pedagogical practice. Unfortunately, photographs of many other dormitory students have not survived. Grigory (Grisha) Czapnik (1910-1943), a graduate of law at the University of Warsaw and the Engineering School of H. Wawelberg and S. Rotwand, although preserved in the memory of many alumni who survived the war, does not appear in any of the known photographs documenting the history of the Dom Sierot (Orphans' Home). It is known that Grisha spent many summers at the summer camps in Różyczka, probably taking care of the boys captured in the photo with the "Doctor".
