Wooden kayak named Cheeby
Collection | Janusz Korczak Association of Canada |
Description | A wooden kayak which went by the nick name Cheeby. It was given to it after the name of Shirley Temple’s beloved movie. The kayak was built by the children under the instructions of Igor Neverly. He was the secretary of Janusz Korczak. Later he became a known writer and an active figure in preserving Korczak’s memory. Neverly's hobby was wood curving. He accepted the children’s request to teach them how to curve. The children sailed the kayak on the Visla river straight in to the columns of the bridge on top of the river. The kayak was broken though the children were unharmed .In the middle of the photo is Felek Grzyb. |
