| Description | Anthology of selected writings by Janusz Korczak – the first translation into English of his writings on pedagogy. This translation was completed thanks to assistance from the National Science Foundation and Central Institute of Scientific, Technical and Economic Information. This publication is a partial translation of the four-volume Selected Writings by Janusz Korczak published in 1957, edited by Igor Newerly – his academic partner of long standing. The anthology includes the following pedagogical works: Momenty wychowawcze [1919]; Jak kochać dziecko. Dziecko w rodzinie [1920]; Jak kochać dziecko. Internat [1921]; Jak kochać dziecko. Kolonie letnie [1921]; Jak kochać dziecko. Dom Sierot [1921; omitted from the index]; Prawo dziecka do szacunku [1929]; O gazetce szkolnej [1921]; "Szkoła Specjalna" [articles: Theory and practice, 25; Złodziejaszek, 1926; Notes on various types of children, 1929; Niepoprawni, 1932; Wychowawca ambitny, 1938]; "W słońcu" [name of publication omitted; article: Przepraszam was, dzieci, 1924]. In addition, the publication contains a biographical book for children about Louis Pasteur A Stubborn Boy [1938] and two unique texts from the ghetto. The first of these is The Offer [1942; current name: Statement by Henryk Goldszmit (Janusz Korczak) sent to the Jewish Council offering his services as a pedagogue in the orphanage at No. 39 Dzielna, written as a curriculum vitae in case of need to engage Janusz Korczek at the Main House of Shelter in the ghetto. In this text, Korczak describes his fate and the aspects of his character. The second text is a Journal written mostly in 1942, which is a record of everyday events, but also deep reflections, recollections and plans made by Korczak. [Diary Introduction: I. Newerly; 1942].
