Spaces of life and death. On wartime writings (1939–1942) by Janusz Korczak

Collection Janusz Korczak Association of Canada
Description The article presents volume 15 of Janusz Korczak’s collected works entitled Wartime Writings (1939–1942) (published in 2021). This collection volume is a unique historical publication containing 86 texts written by the famous educator and writer during his stay in a ‘closed district’, also referred to as ‘death territory’ of the Warsaw Ghetto. The book is a dramatic testimony of Korczak’s heroic and determined struggle for the right of a child to live, even in a borderline situation. It is also a memoir of Korczak’s own search for answers to the question about the meaning of the human world during the Holocaust.
