Uparty chłopiec : życie Ludwika Pasteura
Collection | Biblioteka Narodowa |
Description | This publication is a fictionalised outline of the life of Louis Pasteur. In writing this book, Korczak was working to achieve two aims important to him personally. The first of these related to creating books about remarkable persons whose achievements could inspire children and young people. The second aim was writing about great figures from history not as adults, but as children. This novel presents the story of Pasteur's family and the surroundings he was raised in. His personality is described in great detail, focusing especially on his stubbornness (hence the title "Uparty chłopiec"), as well as descriptions of the challenges he had to overcome in achieving the objectives he had set for himself. The book is a very accessible and faithful source of knowledge about Pasteur, along with descriptions of research into the fields of chemistry and microbiology and the history of Europe in the 19th century. The book was first drafted in 1923, some 100 years after Pasteur's birth, and yet work on the novel, including research into source materials and the search for the right form to use in presenting the story took Korczak more than ten years. The book was only published the once during its author's lifetime, in 1938. |
