Description | The photo shows the employees of Nasz Dom (Our Home) - Józefa Dzięcioł, Maria Podwysocka, Maria Znamierowska and Fryderyka Lazarusówna - in its pioneering period in Pruszków. Józefa Dzięcioł (1895–1983) began working with Maria Falska, a pedagogue and educational activist in Kiev during World War I, where she looked after Polish children with her. In the interwar period, she was an educator at Nasz Dom (Our Home), and later of the Michalina Mościcka Educational Institution in Spała. Maria Podwysocka (1887–1976), née Warhanek, was a social activist associated with Nasz Dom (Our Home) for many years, an active member of the 'Nasz Dom' (‘Our Home’) Society, which ran the institution from 1921. She was active in its administration and also worked as a full-time secretary. Maria Znamierowska (1898–1990), after her husband Prüfferowa, was an ethnographer, professor at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, founder and director of the Ethnographic Museum in Toruń. She worked at Nasz Dom (Our House) from her return to Poland after World War I until the spring of 1920. She left the institution due to her illness. All three women met Maria Falska and probably Henryk Goldszmit (Janusz Korczak) in Kiev during World War I. Fryderyka Lazarusówna (1879–1942) was a social activist and member of the Polish Social and Democratic Party. She was a teacher, writer, and author of books for children. In the years 1919–1920 she worked at Nasz Dom (Our Home).
