Trzy wyprawy Herszka
Collection | Biblioteka Narodowa |
Description | This publication presents the story of Herszek – a semi-orphan wanting to reach Palestine. He sets off on this journey three times, but each attempt is unsuccessful. Having heard his older brother Lejb talking about Palestine, he imagines it to be a land flowing with milk and honey. He dreams of leading Jews to it. The book ends on a quote from a letter written by Edwin Markauze (information about the source of this quote is not included in “Trzy wyprawy Herszka”). The quote deals with the experiences of a young Jew who reaches Palestine and sets up home there. This book is a separate addition to the category of books by Korczak, intended for Jewish readers. They were written in Polish, because Korczak did not know Hebrew nor Yiddish. “Trzy wyprawy Herszka” originates from the Hebrew translation of Korczak's text titled "Herszele" (Herszek) from 1925. it tells the story of a four year old lad who wishes to become the messiah. “Trzy wyprawy Herszka” was published in 1939 by the Palestinian Library for Children. It was a sort of gift for the readers of the magazine „Mały Przegląd”. |
