Biography of Teodora Teresa Osińska and two portrait photos

Collection Muzeum Warszawy
Description Dobra (Dorka) Brauner (1905–1965) was a pupil and educator at the Dom Sierot (Orphans' Home) and a teacher loved by children. Orphaned at the age of three, she ended up in an orphanage in Łódź, where her family came from. Stefania Wilczyńska took her to Warsaw, with whom Dorka became very close. Following her example, she became an educator of care institutions. She survived the years of World War II under the name of Teodora Teresa Osińska, with which she remained after the end of the war. The biography of Dobra Brauner, written in 1949, is very detailed, typical of the Stalinist period of post-war Poland. It is a testimony to the difficult life situation in the pre-war period, a religious spiritual transformation and baptism, as well as hiding in occupied Warsaw. In the letter Osińska did not mention a word about multiple attempts to study at the University of Warsaw before the war. Her student documents at the time, stored in the university archives, were not discovered until 2021. She did not become a master of Polish studies until the age of 56.
