O fizycznem wychowaniu dzieci

Collection Biblioteka Narodowa
Description This treatise titled "O fizycznem wychowaniu dzieci" by Jędrzej Śniadecki, to which Janusz Korczak added an introduction, was first published in independent Poland in 1920, which was the sixth edition since 1805. The introduction lists Korczak's ideas about the need to present people with good role models to be followed by example. The author is of the opinion that in order to inspire contemporary folks, it is necessary to popularise the lives of those who achieved greatness in the past. Almost 20 years later, he would honour this philosophy by publishing his fictionalised biography of Louis Pasteur ("Uparty chłopiec", 1938). It also provides biographical information about Śniadecki, mentioning not only his achievements, but also his mistakes and failings. The introduction gives praise to the notion of collective scientific collaborations. Two years after Poland regained its independence, Korczak boldly concludes that Śniadecki lost his chance of having an academic career because he devoted himself to his work from the ground up and was thus done a disservice by his own homeland.
